SUMMARY:Honoré Daumier
DESCRIPTION:The newly reopened International Newspaper Museum is proud to present\nthe exhibition “Newspapers in the Artistic Caricatures of Honoré\nDaumier” from the German Newspaper Museum in Wadgassen. The exhibition\nfocuses on Daumier’s well known lithographs. Between 1831 and 1832\, he\nworked for the satirical journals  “La Caricature” and “Le Charivari”\,\ncreating caricatures that achieved international renown. Daumier is\nstill considered to be the best known French caricaturist of the 19th\ncentury. His life’s work comprises more than 4\,000 lithographs and 1\,000\nwood engravings. \nThis exhibition presents a selection of works by Daumier on the subject\nof newspapers and newspaper readers. The selection focuses on freedom of\nthe press and on everyday observations to do with newspapers. In his\ncaricatures\, Daumier illustrates the difficult situation in which\nfreedom of the press found itself in the 19th century\, with censorship\nand stamp duty. The exhibition also throws light on the everyday\npredicaments and problems of the newspaper business\, e.g. the fight for\nsubscribers\, the ever-increasing size of newspaper formats and the\nvarious types of newspaper readers.

DESCRIPTION:In Kooperation mit dem internationalen Zeitungsmuseum in Aachen (IZM) veranstaltet das Literaturbüro Euregio Maas-Rhein (EMR) im Rahmen der „Silbenschmiede“ eine Lesung. \nAm 17. Dezember liest Karin Peters in Haus Löwenstein am Markt aus aus ihrem neuen Gedichtband: „Mäanderflüge“. \nKarin Peters lebt in Aachen. Sie wuchs im Frankenberger Viertel am Neumarkt auf und verbrachte dort ihre Kindheit. Schon früh regte der Platz mit dem alten Baumbestand ihre kindliche Fantasie an: „Es schien manchmal\, als ob Märchen\, Geschichten und Verse von den Bäumen tropften“. Karin Peters Verse sind „Schaukeltänze und Dunkelgewänder“ gegen das Vergessen. \nDer Eintritt ist frei\, Spenden sind willkommen.

Bei Kerzenschein und Lampen\, mit Zimtsternen\, Chai und Mokka entführt die Erzählerin Regina Sommer in die Welten von Scheherazade\, und zu einer Zeit ohne Zeit am Abend der Mittsonnenwende. Aus Nacht wird Licht\, Vergangenes trifft Gegenwärtiges.
